Mahler Director Joins Narus, Inc.
For global businesses, solid leadership is everything. When Narus, Inc., the leader in carrier-class security and traffic intelligence for the world’s largest IP networks, recently announced the addition of Yogi Mistry to its team, this Mahler Advisory Board member brought with him extensive experience in engineering and management. Mistry joins Narus as a Senior Vice President of worldwide engineering
Mistry joined the Mahler family in the early 1990's when, as VP Engineering for Harris Corp. (a global telecommunications and software systems provider, he graduated from the Advanced Management Skills Program, a four module program focusing on leadership development. He has been a friend and supporter ever since. Although Yogi credits the Mahler Advanced Management Skills Program with his success as a leader, he also has a natural, instinctive approach to the leadership of technology organizations. Since leaving Harris, he has worked extensively in Silicon Valley. He is highly skilled in the overall leadership of technology companies, particularly with respect to both business development and technology strategy. He brings with him solid leadership development and leadership coaching skills that have propelled him through his career from his early days with Harris.
Global business demands a unique leadership skill set. Yogi tells us that the Mahler curriculum supported him in acquiring this skill set. “The Advanced Management Skills Program addresses the concerns and challenges that you face when you find yourself managing others, and especially when you are managing managers”, says Mistry. “This was particularly important for me as an immigrant. I found that I was missing the nuances…the things that can derail a career. Mahler gave me feedback…hard feedback, opened my eyes and put me on the road to understanding how to manage in Western companies”, says Mistry.
“Mahler’s core offering, the AMSP or Advanced Management Skills Program, is a four module program that takes place over a year. Each module is 3 ½ days of intensive learning and coaching. You hone your interpersonal skills, pick up practical tools that help you grow your business, lead change and become a stronger leader through the exploration of culture and its impact on people and the work they do. I had a rich learning experience from the facilitator who was an active General Manager who had been there and done that. Other programs I’ve attended have “trainers” with limited business experience or professors with only theoretical knowledge. Not so with Mahler. At Mahler, you get solid coaching from highly experienced business people, not some guy with an HR degree. They also put together great classes with other professionals struggling with the same issues you are. Mahler changed my life. That’s why I’ve been actively promoting Mahler in India. I believe that the business growth taking place in India requires a much more sophisticated approach to leadership than exists now. Indian management is stuck in the 1940’s or1950’s. Mahler is really good at fixing that”, says Mistry.
“Narus has unparalleled security and traffic intelligence technology solutions that bring unique financial and technical benefits to their carrier and government customers,” says Mistry. “This role will allow me to work with a global team and contribute to an outstanding executive management team as we continue to push the limits of innovation.” As he moves forward utilizing both experience and education, Mistry will leverage the elements learned in the Mahler Advanced Management Skills Program.
Global corporations are looking for skilled leaders to head up vital areas of their business. Leading such organizations requires education and skills that enable people to live in a global matrix where influence without direct control is the order of the day. This is what makes Mahler courses so valuable. Students are able to learn the leadership and interpersonal skills that they need while applying those skills to real life situations.
As enthusiastic as Mistry is to join Narus, Narus is equally enthusiastic to welcome him on board. “Yogi has a proven track record of providing leadership, discipline and accountability to engineering development groups that are distributed globally,” said Greg Oslan, president and CEO at Narus. “I look forward to working with Yogi and the rest of our engineering team to continue to deliver our NarusInsight solution on a global scale, bringing innovative carrier-class security and traffic intelligence products to market.”
